Agilex Technologies Hires Former HHS CIO Melissa Chapman to Lead Health Technology Programs

Company’s Public Health Projects include Support for the Nationwide Health Information Network

Agilex Technologies, Inc., an enterprise application, solution and advisory firm serving the national security, healthcare and public sectors, today announced the appointment of Melissa Chapman to the newly-created position of Vice President for Health Solutions. Chapman previously served as the CIO for the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and as the acting CIO for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Within Agilex, she will lead the company’s health technology programs and manage its strategic and growing relationship with HHS.

In her new role, Chapman will oversee the company’s programs within HHS and will serve as a senior advisor to the department’s leadership. In addition, she will provide leadership in terms of Agilex’ public health strategy and industry presence. She will also offer counsel to clients of the company’s in-house CIO consultancy, Agilex Advisory Services, which is led by Bob Otto, the former CIO/CTO of the United States Postal Service.

During her service with HHS, Chapman led the establishment of the Federal Health Architecture (FHA) as part of the President’s Management Agenda. FHA is used to guide the federal government’s participation in key healthcare initiatives, such as the Nationwide Health Information Network. She was also recognized for leading the department’s information technology consolidation efforts and for harmonizing its approaches to IT security and FISMA compliance.

At the FDA, Chapmen led the development of enterprise systems for improving drug safety and implemented a number of shared services programs. She also partnered with industry to develop a new e-commerce infrastructure to streamline the review of new drugs and biologics.

Chapman joins Agilex from General Dynamics Information Technology, where she led the company’s health information technology initiatives as a vice president within the company’s Civilian and Homeland Security Solutions division. Previously, she served as a senior vice president and director for the Health Solutions sector at Apptis Corporation. As a Principal with Booz Allen Hamilton, she led health information technology programs within the federal government and life sciences sectors.
